When we returned to Columbia, we had one day before we left to go back home. We spent this day at the Columbia Zoo - Now Riverbanks is the zoo where Deb and I grew up going to but it seems it has changed a lot and become quite the renowned zoo - We were both impressed by all the exhibits and how much care was taken with all the interactive activities. Of course our own little Turttleback Zoo here will always be number one, this zoo was certainly on it's game to impress. There were also some big game animals there that are not at our little zoo like tigers, elephants, giraffes, tigers as well as our family favorite penguins.
Most excitingly there was a lot of things we could do with pretty exotic animals that we had not had the chance to do in the past. We actually fed giraffes from our own little hands - including Nino which was really quite something (see the video if this if you have time). Alessandro also rode a pony for the first time - thanks to Aunt Deborah who also wore a helmet to make him less scared - she is the best Aunt who ever lived. Mr. Willie gave him a very calm and loving first ride and was something to remember. We also walked a path with actual kangaroos hopping all around, played on their playground and rode a train and carousel. Funny how with everything going on the train is still the marque event - even when it is mini-me sized and Aunt Deb and Mom have to be folded up to ride along. All and all it was exciting and fun and the boys can not wait to go back again to walk on the wild side. XOXOXO
